A Crisis Unfolding: Access to Education for Refugees and the Forcibly Displaced

WEDNESDAY, MAY 24

2:00 – 3:00 PM

Russell Senate Office Building

Room 385

Washington, DC 20002

Globally, 75 million school-age children and youth affected by emergencies and protracted crises are in desperate need of educational support. Education plays a vital role for those who are displaced as they will be tasked not only with rebuilding their lives, but rebuilding their communities as well. Yet, only 50 percent of refugees have access to primary school, 20 percent to secondary school and less than one percent have access to pre-primary or tertiary education.

Join us for a conversation to discuss access to education for the world’s displaced and new efforts to address these challenges, including Education Cannot Wait: A Fund for Education in Emergencies, which was launched one year ago – on May 24 – at the World Humanitarian Summit.
