Webinar Recording Now Available: A Guide for Strengthening Gender Equality and Inclusiveness

Teaching and learning materials have a powerful impact on children because the images and language they contain can influence a child’s understanding of the world—and themselves. Especially in environments that are prone to conflict and crisis, those materials can have a compounding effect and help mitigate or contribute to conflict in the society.  In support of the goal to promote inclusivity and equality in teaching and learning materials, the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID’s) Bureau for Africa has developed A Guide for Strengthening Gender Equality and Inclusiveness in Teaching and Learning Materials, which includes many aspects of how gender equality and inclusion can be strengthened.

On October 27, 2016, Dr. Jennae Bulat, Director of Teaching and Learning at RTI International, hosted a webinar on A Guide for Strengthening Gender Equality and Inclusiveness in Teaching and Learning Materials. The webinar provides background information on the development of this Guide, detailed commentary from Dr. Bulat about the structure and content of the Guide, and an example of how to use the Guide when evaluating existing teaching and learning materials. Additional commentary from implementing partners across the world provides a wide discussion from experienced practitioners about how and where this Guide could be used, and what challenges or successes others have come across when working to develop equitable and inclusive teaching and learning materials.
