ECCN members are invited to join a two-day Workshop on February 1–2, 2018, at George Washington University, in Washington, D.C.

Embedding Social and Emotional Learning in Textbooks

Education has two faces; it can increase social tensions and conflict and/or it can ameliorate divisions in society and equip young people for modern life.

Sustainable Development Target 4.7 is the global goal on education (SDG 4) that encourages the development of knowledge and skills necessary to strengthen mutual understanding and care among all of members of society and for the planet we share.

These knowledge and skills, incorporated in various prior international education agreements, include:

  • sustainable development and lifestyles
  • human rights
  • gender equality
  • culture of peace and non-violence
  • global citizenship
  • appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development

The workshop will review tools and practices to inform how to bring these topics to the classroom using standard textbooks.

Only one representative per agency is allowed, and you must stay for both days. The number of participants is limited due to space and so, we will select applicants on a first come, first served basis.

Please send an email to Wendy Wheaton and Koli Banik by January 25, 2018, along with your bio and a paragraph stating your interest in attending.

For those who are accepted, we will be in touch to confirm attendance, the venue, and more details.
